WIDR 89.1 FM is Western Michigan University's entirely student-run freeform radio station, on the air in Kalamazoo since 1975. Broadcasting at 100 watts with a diverse lineup of alternative, jazz, hip-hop, electronic, and world music alongside public affairs programming, WIDR has built a national reputation as one of America's top college stations — earning Best College Station at the 2025 Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Conference. Its call letters stand for "Western Inter-Dormitory Radio," a nod to its origins as a campus carrier-current station in 1952.
